Advancing Alzheimer’s Research. Empowering Communities.
REACH was created to unify and expand a long-standing commitment to addressing the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other health deficits in —particularly within underserved communities. Bringing together years of research, community engagement, and collaborative partnerships, REACH serves as a central platform for advancing the improvement of health disparities.
Grounded in collaboration and guided by purpose, REACH connects academic institutions, medical research funding, and nationally recognized best practices in community outreach to create meaningful, lasting impact. Under the leadership of Dr. Goldie Byrd, the initiative builds on a strong foundation of work dedicated to ensuring that those most affected by Alzheimer’s are not only supported but represented in the future of discovery.
Today, through its affiliation with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, REACH continues to expand and deepen its impact. The team provides culturally relevant education, supports caregivers navigating the realities of dementia, and leads cutting-edge genetic research aimed at understanding and addressing disparities in Alzheimer’s outcomes. Central to this work is a commitment to increasing participation in research projects, helping ensure that advancements in science reflect the communities they are meant to serve.
As you review the work of REACH you will be introduced to our key programs within our three Pillars of Excellence – Research, Education and Training and Outreach and Engagement. From faith-based health initiatives to caregiver colleges, Alzheimer’s research, and men’s health, they all have a common goal and that is to advocate for healthy living and aging. All initiatives are research based and led by skillful team members who are invested and passionate about their work. It is our hope that through REACH you will find information that will help you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.
